Who we help
The Glass-House can support any group or organisation leading a project to create new or regenerate existing buildings, spaces, homes or neighbourhoods.

Our criteria for supporting groups is that they can demonstrate a commitment to:
- creating thoughtfully designed places that that will benefit a broad spectrum of local people
- developing a place that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable
- an inclusive design process that allows for local people to play a clear role in informing change and making decisions throughout the project
How we help
The Glass-House offers a range of scheduled:
We also provide tailored packages of support that are delivered where you are based and may draw on a combination of these. We assess each project individually, and work with your group to help develop a package of support that best meets your specific needs.
We can help your group:
- work with stakeholders to develop a vision and a joint understanding of opportunities, parameters and budgets
- develop a design brief that supports, and is supported by, the business plan
- agree principles and practices around communication and decision-making – a vital part of every project
- harness local knowledge, skills and enthusiasm
- build stakeholder knowledge and skills to enable participatory design
- get the most out of the design team
We also have programmes that are specifically aimed at giving young people the skills and confidence to take part in these projects.
How we work
The role of The Glass-House is to provide independent and impartial support. We work to ensure that communities are informing and/or leading on the design process, and that all those involved in the project have the skills and confidence to work collaboratively and effectively.
Part of what we do is provide the opportunity for everyone involved in a project (whether they are community members, local businesses, council employees, architects, developers etc) to come together to find solutions for their area. This helps people develop an understanding and appreciation of what each can contribute to the process and gives the project the best chance of success.
The Glass-House works with a bank of external professionals (our Enablers) to help us provide independent specialist advice and practical support to live projects. Glass-House Enablers are there to offer impartial advice, free of conflict and of interest.
What it costs
The Glass-House operates a sliding scale, providing subsidised support to community-based and not-for-profit organisations. While scheduled events have set fees and bursaries attached, each commissioned support package is assessed on an individual basis according to the length of the programme and the sessions that are included.
