The Glass-House 2009/2010 Debate Series
From October 2009 to March 2010, The Glass-House Community Led Design, working in partnership with Architecture Centres in Bristol, Southampton, NewcastleGateshead and London, delivered a series of debates which explored the impact of the Duty to Involve legislation on Community Led Design. The legislation, introduced in April 2009, placed a duty on authorities to inform, consult and engage with local people. The Glass-House was keen to explore what impact this might have on the way local authorities involve communities in decision-making around physical regeneration.
The Glass-House and our partners assembled mixed panels and audiences of design and regeneration professionals, local authority officers, community activists and policy commentators to explore the issue through presentations and open discussion. Following presentations from our guest speakers, members of the audience were invited to pose questions to the panel and to share their experiences on the topic. While each venue and each audience brought some different issues and concerns to the forefront of discussion, there were several common themes, observations and recommendations that emerged.
The links below will take you to a summary of key themes from the series and to summaries of the individual debate discussions.
