Young Spacemakers Youth Worker Briefing
During the course the ultimate responsibility for the young people’s well being and behaviour will lie with the individual youth workers/ adult supervisors who attend with the groups.
At the beginning of the course the facilitators will encourage the young people to set some ground rules and go through safe ways of using the tools available. The Young Spacemaker facilitators will expect the youth workers to support them in reinforcing these behaviours and ensuring that everybody has a good time whilst being safe and considerate. This is particularly important for the study trip sessions where the young people will be leaving the workshop location both by coach and by foot; the course facilitators will be relying on the youth workers support to ensure that all the young people remain with the group.
This is a hands on design course and the facilitators leading the sessions will be setting all the tasks and providing support for the groups. It is helpful if you stay with your groups and engage in all of the activities alongside them, however, we would ask that you take a questioning role and encourage the young people to lead the project in their own direction and avoid offering solutions. We have found that by encouraging the young people to lead their own projects they get the most benefit out of the course and are better placed to carry on with their projects back in their own communities.
In advance, groups must:
Have a project idea
Know the post code for their site
Find out who owns the site
Groups should bring site photos to the course
