Design Training

Glass-House Design Training has been delivering results for 10 years. These two-day hands-on courses enable community groups and the professionals they work with to develop skills, knowledge and confidence to move their projects forward.

What is Design Training?

Each Design Training course is focused on a particular theme: buildings, spaces, homes, neighbourhoods. We also offer courses with a focus on environmental sustainability and ones specifically designed for young people. All our courses help groups in the early stages of their project explore design options with support from our independent design professionals and Glass-House staff.

Who is it for?

Design Training is for community groups and organisations at the early stages of a physical regeneration project. You may be leading the project or be part of a community stakeholder group involved in a scheme led by a local authority, social housing provider, developer or cooperative.

Up to 20 people (from up to 5 different groups) may attend each course, providing a unique opportunity for you to explore and share design ideas with others in an informal and neutral space.

What happens?

During the training you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work actively and creatively on your project
  • Visit inspiring built projects and meet the people who developed and use them
  • Explore design options supported by design professionals
  • Create a physical model of your project whether its a space, building, housing scheme or neighbourhood
  • Create an action plan to take your project forward

How do I attend Design Training?

Glass-House Design Training is currently offered as commissioned courses delivered regionally or locally for a particular project or for a number of groups.

If you are interested, please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements at info@theglasshouse.org.uk or 020 7490 4583.

Design Training Courses

Buildings by Design

Working on a community building? On this course your group will develop your project vision for the building through creative exercises, culminating in a physical model to capture your ideas.

EcoNeighbourhoods by Design

This course provides a practical, hands-on exploration of the elements that make up your neighbourhood, and ways to involve your community in developing an action plan to implement sustainability initiatives through design.

Homes by Design

Learn more about the design process for new housing schemes or those undergoing redevelopment in your local area. This exciting course explores how design can help you to create better places to live and the impact of housing schemes on the local environment and community.

Spaces by Design

Through this course your group gains the design skills and confidence necessary to create great communal spaces, parks, or play areas.

Young SpaceMakers

This course for 14-17 year olds involved in open space projects in their local area aims to provide them with the skills, confidence, and creativity to take leadership in making their neighbourhood a better place to live.
