Debates
We hold an annual debate series exploring a theme related to the design of the built environment, and looking at the issue of community participation in the design process. We assemble a mixed panel of design and regeneration professionals, community project leaders and social commentators and encourage lively debate among panel members and the audience.
This year's series
Community led design: what is it and does it work?
The term ‘'community led design’ means different things to different people but does it really mean in practice? And does it lead to high quality places and spaces that are socially economically and environmentally sustainable?
This series will explore and challenge the mixed perceptions of community led design and consider the value and impact of its practice in the UK today. We will bring together panellists from the community, design, local government and development sector to talk about:
- their experience of community led design projects
- what they see as the qualities and outcomes of community led design
- whether they think the current social, political and economic climate supports or hinders community led design
- how community led design affects / is relevant to them and their sector
- what they and their sector can do to support and be supported by community led design
This year our debates will be in:
This series is being delivered in partnership with Architecture + Design Scotland, Architecture Centre, Bristol, Northern Architecture and Design Council CABE.
